Magical Trees
“Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky.” – Kahlil Gebran
Since my childhood, I’ve been captivated by trees – their enigmatic roots reaching deep into the Earth and their branches reaching towards the sky. Obsessed with uncovering their secrets, I’ve spent countless hours studying, drawing, and painting them. Trees are alive to me; their majestic beauty inspiring awe and respect – even a sense of soulfulness. By looking closely at each tree’s bark and the way its branches have grown and leaned over time we can read its unique story written in the landscape. My renderings often evoke a dreamy atmosphere that transcends reality as they open up doors to creative wonderlands beyond our understanding. Trees embody resilience – the kind that has much to teach us if only we are observant enough.
I’m incorporating similar techniques for my landscape paintings featuring trees as I do for my door paintings. The trees I paint take on a whimsical feel, perhaps diverging from total realism. This, however, is my artistic interpretation and how I view them. My goal is to evoke emotion and create a visual story through my artwork.
What trees and doors have in common; they shed light on the value of resilience, endurance, hope, being grounded and never giving up.
